The iconic electronic duo Pet Shop Boys have officially announced their upcoming studio album, 'A Man From The Future,' a project that promises to be as intellectually stimulating as it is sonically immersive. Scheduled for release on October 9, 2026, via Parlophone Records, the eight-track record serves as a profound musical tribute to the life and legacy of the pioneering mathematician and cryptanalyst Alan Turing.
Originally conceived for a 2014 BBC Proms performance, the duo has meticulously revised the composition to feature a heavier electronic emphasis. This modern iteration is complemented by intimate string arrangements composed by Sven Helbig and performed by the Manchester Camerata Octet. To add a layer of narrative depth, actress Juliet Stevenson provides spoken-word narration adapted from the definitive biography, Alan Turing: The Enigma, written by Andrew Hodges.
A Musical Memorial to a Visionary
The album chronicles the complex life of Turing, spanning his early years, his critical wartime codebreaking efforts at Bletchley Park, his foundational contributions to the field of computing, and the tragic circumstances surrounding his persecution and death. The final track of the LP notably incorporates archival statements from former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, which address the historic royal pardon granted to Turing.
Reflecting on the project, the Pet Shop Boys shared their motivation: “Our motive in creating this work was to make a musical memorial to Alan Turing who gave so much to his country and the world and was rewarded for it by being prosecuted for his sexuality. Alan made a massive contribution to the defeat of Germany in World War II and was a pioneer of computing, imagining a world with intelligent computers. He also looked forward to a time when being gay would be accepted as normal. In both his professional and private lives, he was ahead of his time.”
