Colin Donnell Returning to Chicago Med: Dr. Connor Rhodes Returns

Colin Donnell is returning to Chicago Med. After departing the hit NBC medical drama in 2019, the actor is set to reprise his role as the fan-favorite character Dr. Connor Rhodes.

According to reports, Donnell will return to the cast for a two-episode arc in the show's 12th season, which includes the highly anticipated fall finale scheduled to air on Dec. 9. Dr. Rhodes is expected to return to the hospital to assist with a complex heart surgery involving a young patient.

Donnell, 44, was a series regular on Chicago Med from its debut in 2015 until his departure midway through the fifth season. His absence from the show has spanned seven years, during which time he has remained active in the industry with roles in television projects such as Love on Iceland, To Catch a Spy, Irreverent, FBI: International, and Zero Day.

Before his tenure as a television lead, Donnell established a strong reputation on Broadway, appearing in productions like Jersey Boys and Anything Goes, as well as the Mamma Mia! tour. His film credits include Every Secret Thing and Almost Love, while his earlier television work featured appearances in Arrow and The Affair.

“Dr. Connor Rhodes was the very first character fans met in the opening scene of Chicago Med’s premiere episodes in 2015,” showrunner Allen MacDonald noted. “He’s one of my absolute favorites in the history of the series, so bringing him back has been an absolute priority for me since I joined the show. I’m so thrilled that Colin Donnell has agreed to return to his iconic role.”

New episodes of Chicago Med continue to air on Wednesday nights on NBC.
