BEST OF INDIE POP – WEEK 6

My favorite thing to do during the week is curate through an insane amount of pop music. Seriously. My second favoritest thing to do during the week is tell you all about the music I and the team at We Are: The Guard picked and titled The Best Indie Pop Songs of The Week. There’s something very gratifying about digging through streaming services and the internet. The best things to come to those who look and wait. But in your case, there’s no need to look or wait because we do it for you and besides, there’s a million and one other things we need to be doing like … I dunno you tell me. Anyways, let’s give our support to this week’s favorites below.

DAUGHTERS OF NOISE! - 2023

We've all had our fair share of perfect duos … but bet ya never ever seen a duo with so much wow in their jive. The ladies of indie dance pop project Daughters of Noise! will make you bust out your favorite spandex outfit and hit the dance floor. In just under 3 minutes you’ll be left feeling better than when you first played their single “2023.”

MAJOR LAZER - KING OF THE PARTY FEAT. MR. KILLA

Ok yes, hand down Major Lazor is the king at every party with it’s infectious beats that make bodies jump up and down. “King of The Party” is one of those tracks that reminds me of the time I went to Cancun and took shot after shot because some dude with a whistle kept feeding them to me. The same head throbbing feeling after taking shot after shot is the same throbbing I get when I play this track. Try it and let me know what you experience.

SAN HOLO - HONEST FEAT BROODS

Holy shomly! Has it really been 3 years since producer San Holo dropped a track?! Seems like it…and wow does it sound good. “Honest” is so pure, so clean, so fresh. Broods adds a vibrance to the already delicious track.

PHONY PPL -FKN AROUND FEAT MEGAN THEE STALLION

We’re glad that moms and dads around the world approve of the funk being brought by Phony Ppl. Nobody out there is doing what these guys are doing, so don’t you dare sleep on them. They’re on their way to getting some major recognition this year … I feel it in my bones.

ODIE - SLOWLY

Odie is more on the mellow side of pop, but it’s pop nonetheless, and every now and then our minds need to slow down a bit, to help with that we’ve brought Odie. “Slowly” opens up the vulnerability that Odie had once felt and it invites listeners to be ok with being vulnerable and losing yourself because it’s all part of the process.

KOTA THE FRIEND  - VOLVO

Everything about this track is fire! I want to kick it with KOTA and chips on the couch with him.

SQUAREPUSHER - TERMINAL SLAM

Squarepusher’s track “Terminal Slam” is highly recommended for those seeking an escape from life. This will crush your head and make you appreciate all that you have, as in, you’ll be thankful life isn’t as loud as the video.

RUSS - ASSHOLE FT BUGUS

This is the prettiest ahole my ears have ever come across. Russ, is blunt about being a butt hole and wears it well as he celebrates who he is and how people think of him. We should be a bit more like him and be ok with being a good a hole.

KID FRANCESCOLI - CITY LIGHTS

How’s this lyric for being romantic:  I just need the taste of your lips. To make my brain eclipse.” Hello Valentine’s Day … this year I’ll be the most mushy romantic ever thanks to Kid Francescoli.

GORILLAZ - MOMENTARY BLISS FEAT. SLOWTHAI AND SLAVES

It’s the Gorillaz … need I say more!? Enjoy it kids.

We’ll see you all next week with more indie pop songs for your listening pleasure. Stay healthy.

Beca Arredondo is easily unamused with all things not related to her interests. On her good days you can catch her avoiding the California sun and glued to her Mac plotting the next big thing. If you happen to run into her on the street and notice her wearing headphones do NOT disturb her. She is not responsible for any possible damage. Aside from the above she's very sweet and perky and responds well to good music and food.
