Darius Rucker Reveals Plans to Retire From Touring Soon

If catching Darius Rucker in concert is on your bucket list, you better start searching for tickets soon. The acclaimed musician is not planning to perform hits like "True Believers" or "Wagon Wheel" indefinitely; instead, Rucker has developed a clear exit plan, and it is coming sooner rather than later.

Earlier this month, Rucker shared his intentions with radio host Dan Patrick. During an appearance on The Dan Patrick Show, the 60-year-old artist revealed that he plans to retire from touring in "two years." Rucker noted that the demanding nature of the road, which included 110 shows last year alone, has begun to take a significant toll on him.

"I’m looking at maybe doing a tour, one more big Hootie thing... if we call it, I gotta do one more Hootie thing," Rucker explained. "Cause we have to finish at Williams-Brice Stadium. Our last show, when we say we’re done, it’s gotta be at Williams-Brice Stadium."

Despite his desire to step back from the stage, Rucker emphasized that he still finds joy in creating music and connecting with live audiences. However, he admitted that he has developed a growing appreciation for his time at home. "I like being home a lot," he said.

Currently, Rucker is in the midst of a 20-city tour that began in June and is scheduled to conclude in South Carolina this October. His band, Hootie & the Blowfish, last toured together in 2024 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut album, Cracked Rear View, which remains one of the best-selling records in history.

Throughout his illustrious career, Rucker has earned two Grammy Awards with Hootie & the Blowfish and an additional Grammy as a solo artist in 2013. While his eventual departure from the stage will undoubtedly be a loss for his fans, his legacy in both pop and country music is firmly cemented.
