Electronic music artist DESIREE and the multi-talented Emmanuel Jal have officially unveiled the music video for their recent collaboration, ‘Macho.’ Released last month via the renowned label Ninja Tune, the track serves as a powerful testament to the intersection of diverse cultural backgrounds and club-focused production.
Directed by Thabang Moabelo, the visual accompaniment was filmed on location in Kilifi, Kenya. The video artfully captures the essence of the track, placing both artists within the vibrant landscapes of East Africa. This setting serves as a backdrop for the song’s core themes, which explore deep-seated ideas of connection and cultural exchange.
A Multilingual Masterpiece
The title ‘Macho’ is derived from the Swahili word for “eyes,” a fitting moniker for a composition that demands the listener's full attention. Throughout the track, Emmanuel Jal showcases his incredible versatility, performing in a blend of Kiswahili, Nuer, Arabic, and English. This linguistic diversity bridges the gap between his international experiences and DESIREE’s distinct South African roots, resulting in a soundscape that is both globally conscious and dancefloor-ready.
The release of the video arrives at a pivotal moment for DESIREE, who is currently preparing for her most significant UK headline performance to date. The show is scheduled to take place at London’s iconic KOKO venue on September 26th, 2026, and will feature special guest appearances by Benji B and Charisse C.
