Wunderhorse have shared their bluesy new single ‘Midas’ – check it out below.
The track opens with a crisp guitar riff and sees frontman Jacob Slater sing/speak: “The voice inside the suit came crawling through the telephone / Somewhere between the cheeseboard and a nursery rhyme / I heard the rattlesnake shaking in his invitation / And the whites of his knuckles on the other end of the line”, his voice reminiscent of Bob Dylan.
Speaking about the creation of the song in a press release, Slater said: “The song was written in a bathtub in Paris, and forgotten about until it resurfaced in Minnesota. Midas is the guy who makes you feel like a pencil stub, all used up and nothing to show for it, but it’s always just business as far as he’s concerned.”

Directed, shot and edited by Polocho, the accompanying music video sees the band performing the song in a dark room while a man in a business suit is crafting a baby doll in a scary office looking room.
The track marks the band’s first release following their 2022 debut album ‘Cub‘. In a four-star review of the LP, NME shared: “‘Cub’ is a goodbye to the Jacob Slater we previously knew, and a hugely exciting welcome to a songwriter finally becoming himself. You can envisage him making records like this for decades to come.”
Following the success of the album, the four piece graduated from playing in basements and pubs to filling Glastonbury’s Woodsies tent and selling out Kentish Town’s O2 Forum months in advance.

It also saw Wunderhorse gradually and naturally became a fully-formed band – comprised of Slater alongside guitarist Harry Fowler, drummer Jamie Staples and bassist Peter Woodin – leaving the solo era of Slater’s previous “Wunderhorse” behind.
In other news, the band are wrapping up tour as support for Declan McKenna this week with them playing at the Alexandra Palace in London on April 12, The Brighton Centre in Brighton on April 13 and the O2 Academy in Bournemouth on April 14. Visit here for any last minute tickets.
From there, Wunderhorse are set for a busy summer with many major festival slots including Reading & Leeds, Boardmasters and TRNSMT, as well as making their festival headline debut at Dot to Dot Festival.
