TikTok influencer Gabbie Gonzalez has been arrested for allegedly attempting to hire a hit man on the dark web to kill former Why Don’t We singer Jack Avery. The 24-year-old content creator, known for her posts about travel, lifestyle and motherhood, was taken into custody in Northern California last week.
According to county jail records obtained by the San Francisco Chronicle, Gonzalez was booked into the Humboldt County jail in Eureka on May 15. She has since been charged in Los Angeles County, alongside her father, Francisco Gonzalez, and a Hawaii-based surf instructor, Kai Cordrey. All three individuals face charges related to their alleged involvement in the murder-for-hire plot. Custody records indicate that Gabbie is currently being held without bond.
The alleged conspiracy reportedly stemmed from a protracted custody and visitation dispute regarding the child shared by Gabbie and Jack Avery. Investigators claim that Francisco Gonzalez, a Miami-based attorney, became deeply involved in the conflict, allegedly attempting to monitor and remove Avery from the family dynamic. Witnesses told investigators that Francisco had acted with hostility toward the singer, reportedly suggesting that it would be cheaper if Avery were dead.

Prosecutors allege that the plot escalated in March 2021 when Francisco began communicating with Cordrey about hiring someone to threaten or harass the singer. Gabbie is accused of portraying Avery as an unfit and dangerous father during custody proceedings, while allegedly discussing the desire to have him killed. Court documents claim that Gabbie and Cordrey later discussed using the dark web and Bitcoin to arrange the murder, suggesting they could stage the death to appear as a car accident.
Financial records cited in the affidavit state that Francisco sent $10,000 to Cordrey via the Square app in 2021, disguised as payment for web-development services. Cordrey reportedly told investigators that no such work was performed. Federal agents eventually intervened, utilizing an undercover officer posing as a hit man to gather evidence. Francisco allegedly spoke in code during phone calls with the undercover agent, discussing previous Bitcoin payments and additional fees.
Jack Avery previously addressed the situation in September 2025 during an appearance on the Zach Sang Show, revealing that FBI agents had warned him of a plot against his life. While he did not identify suspects at the time, he spoke candidly about the difficulties of co-parenting and the legal drama surrounding his former band, Why Don’t We. The group, which was active from 2016 to 2022, officially lost the rights to their name last year following a legal dispute with their former management company.
Gabbie Gonzalez is expected to be arraigned today, May 21. Francisco Gonzalez reportedly remains in custody in Florida, while the status of Kai Cordrey remains unclear.
