50+ special/exclusive releases for today’s Bandcamp fundraiser

Today (July 3) is another Bandcamp first Friday where the online music platform will be waiving their cut of sales and giving 100% of profits directly to artist and labels from midnight to midnight Pacific time. Many labels have also pledged to give their cut of sales directly to their artist, including Epitaph/ANTI-, Arts + Crafts, Bella Union, Dead Oceans, Ghostly International, Hardly Art, Jagjaguwar, Matador, Merge, Mint, Partisan, Polyvinyl, Prophecy, Sargent House, Secretly Canadian, SideOneDummy, Spacebomb, Sub Pop, Suicide Squeeze (who also have a new long sleeve shirt to benefit artists on the label), Topshelf, and more.

Some labels are also donating to charity. Father/Daughter is donating $1.00 for every item sold to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute, Light in the Attic is donating 100% of profits to charity, and Mexican Summer is matching all donations up to $20k to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (you have to DM a screenshot of your donation to the Mexican Summer or Anthology Instagram). Additionally, Arbutus Records is donating 100% of their profits to Immigrant Workers Center Montreal.

Sonic Youth - Live In Bremen 1991
Recently, Sonic Youth have been putting out archival material on their Bandcamp.(Last month, their Bandcamp was stocked with 12+ rare releases!) Today, they've released the live LP, Live In Bremen 1991. Says Steve Shelley: "Live in Bremen was recorded at the Aladin Music Hall on August 27 1991, just halfway through the 12 day European tour that would later become immortalized in The Year Punk Broke documentary directed by our friend Dave Markey. The Aladin had opened in 1977 and had hosted bands such as Golden Earring, Foghat and Blue Öyster Cult, but on this night Sonic Youth, Gumball and special guests Nirvana were on the bill. Two different bootleg SY records were released from this concert; The Mira Tapes, sourced from an audience recording and Live In Bremen, a semi-official bootleg picture disc with a Yoo-Hoo (a NJ-local chocolate beverage drink) bottle cap - supplied by the band - as the cover star. This concert was also the source for some of the audio used for The Year Punk Broke film score and its subsequent short (This Is Known As) The Blues Scale. Now for the first time, and from our own audio source, the entire Sonic Youth in Bremen set (minus encore) is presented here (complete w/a tape-flip during I Love Her All The Time)."
