The 'Backrooms' Soundtrack Is Getting a Vinyl Release

The soundtrack for the hit horror film Backrooms is officially heading to vinyl. Following the movie's massive success at the box office—where it secured the studio’s biggest opening weekend to date with $81.4million in the US and $117.9 million globally—fans will soon be able to own the film's atmospheric score on wax.

The upcoming 2LP release features the original score composed by director Kane Parsons and Edo Van Breemen, known for their work on The Monkey and Keeper. The vinyl is currently available for pre-order and is expected to ship this August.

The film, which follows a psychiatrist’s harrowing search for a client through parallel dimensions, has been praised for its unsettling aesthetic and sound design. While the vinyl release focuses on the original score, the movie also famously featured a haunting track from Boards Of Canada during its closing credits. The track, 'The Word Becomes Flesh', appeared on the band's latest album, Inferno, which arrived on the same day as the film's theatrical debut.

In a recent interview with GQ, Kane Parsons noted that Boards Of Canada served as a primary influence for the film's sonic landscape. The director has also been vocal about his other creative inspirations, including the video game Portal, and has confirmed that a sequel is currently in development.

In a four-star review of Backrooms, NME noted: “Backrooms’ vibes-based momentum won’t be to everyone’s taste. For some there’ll be too much explanation and for others, too little. But it’s an intriguing, memorable creation with the power to rattle, as Parsons lurks in the intersection between dread and delirium.”
