Josh Griffith, the veteran head writer for the iconic daytime soap opera The Young and the Restless, is officially stepping away from the CBS staple. The news of his departure was shared with the show's cast and crew late last week, marking the end of a significant chapter for the long-running production.
Griffith’s history with The Young and the Restless dates back to 2006, when he first joined the team as a writer. Over the following years, he ascended to the role of co-executive producer before departing and returning on multiple occasions, most recently rejoining the fold in 2018. Since his return, he has served in various leadership capacities, including head writer, supervising producer, and executive producer, helping guide the show—which has been on the air since 1973 and boasts over 13,000 episodes—through its modern era.
Throughout his distinguished career, Griffith has been recognized for his contributions to the genre with seven Daytime Emmy Awards, three of which were specifically for Best Writing. His influence extends well beyond Genoa City, as he has lent his talents to other daytime classics such as As the World Turns, Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, Santa Barbara, and Sunset Beach.
In preparation for his transition, Griffith had already stepped back from his producing duties in May to focus exclusively on his writing responsibilities. While he recently offered a glimpse into the show's future, teasing an "exciting, suspenseful and romantic" slate for the upcoming winter and spring seasons, the exact date of his final day remains unconfirmed. As of now, he continues to fulfill his duties while the network searches for his successor.
