listen to Superchunk’s Go-Go’s cover & more songs from Cat’s Cradle benefit

As mentioned, a whole bunch of North Carolina artists have contributed cover songs to a new compilation benefiting long-running Carrboro, NC rock club Cat's Cradle. They've shared the first five songs from it, including Superchunk's cover of The Go-Go's "Can't Stop the World," The dBs' take on The Kinks' "I'm on an Island," Hiss Golden Messenger & Jonathan Wilson's  version of Free's "Travelin' in Style," Sarah Shook & The Disarmers' take on Cigarettes After Sex's "Apocalypse," and Steep Canyon Rangers' cover of Neil Young's "Unknown Legend."

Superchunk, Hiss Golden Messenger and The dB's all offer up pretty faithful takes on the originals, while Sarah Shook brings a folky feel to Cigarettes After Sex's "Apocalypse," and Steep Canyon Rangers bring their bluegrass chops to Neil's song. You can listen to those below.

Cover Charge: NC Artists Go Under Cover To Benefit Cat’s Cradle also features covers from Iron & Wine, Chatham County Line, Tift Merritt, Dexter Romweber, The Love Language, Southern Culture on the Skids, and more, with proceeds going benefit the Cat’s Cradle "to ensure it can restore its rightful place for generations to come." More songs will be shared Friday, July 10.

Speaking of The Go-Go's, the band just released their first new song in 19 years and have a documentary about them on the way.
