Need some relief from the pandemonium the coronavirus pandemic has caused? Lizzo's got you covered after leading her 8.4 million Instagram followers on a 30-minute mass meditation Friday morning (March 13).
The "Good as Hell" singer's Houston Rodeo headlining performance scheduled for Friday was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns, so she lined up a new gig on Instagram Live. Lizzo kicked off the half-hour session with a soothing flute recital above a bowl of multicolored healing crystals before delving into her mantra for the day above the calming ocean sound machine: "Fear does not exist in my body. Fear does not exist in my home. Love exists in my body. Love exists in my home."
Lizzo empathized with fans who felt sad "because a lot of their favorite artists can't play shows, or somebody they know is sick, or they might be sick, or we might be afraid of what this means for life as we know it. And I wanted to take the time today to just do a mass meditation."
After reflecting on taking the necessary safety precautions while applying hand sanitizer, she adopted commonplace examples to emulate the love-conquers-fear proverb, from easily removing one's jacket or hat to "[snatching] the fear like a wig off of the earth."
While leading her fans in deep breathing exercises and pacifying them with her flute, Lizzo took on the form as a guide rather than an entertainer. And she called on those who tuned in to heal with her during what first felt like a hopeless morning but gently turned hopeful at the singer's graceful direction.
"Be healthy, be vigilant, but don’t be afraid. We’re in this together. We’ll get through this together. Because we always do," Lizzo concluded. "We’re not going to let fear become the next pandemic. Namaste."
