Today Show Intruder Arrested After Confronting Craig Melvin

A security breach at the TODAY Show in New York City resulted in an arrest Thursday morning after a man reportedly stormed the building and lunged at co-host Craig Melvin.

According to reports, the incident occurred around 9 a.m. ET when an individual managed to bypass security measures from the plaza. The intruder was initially searching for co-host Al Roker, but upon failing to locate him, he redirected his attention toward a restricted area where he confronted Melvin. Witnesses allege the man lunged at the anchor while shouting a racial slur.

Staff and security personnel acted quickly to detain the intruder, who was reportedly unarmed. The individual had successfully navigated into a stairwell and reached the backstage area near the dressing rooms before being apprehended. Despite the alarming nature of the breach, the incident did not disrupt the live broadcast, and no injuries were reported. Both Melvin and Roker returned to the air approximately 15 minutes later, continuing the program without addressing the behind-the-scenes security situation.

The network is reportedly conducting an internal review to determine how the individual gained unauthorized access to the building. Meanwhile, the show continues its regular programming, though other schedule changes were noted, including Savannah Guthrie's upcoming temporary hiatus to film a new game show project.
