Budakid has officially released ‘Dreams Stretched Beyond (The Remixes)’ through his own imprint, Flores. This expansive seven-track collection offers a fresh perspective on the Dutch-born, Berlin-based producer's debut album, which originally arrived this past July.
The original project was a deeply personal endeavor, crafted during a period of isolation in the Alps and drawing upon two decades of musical experience. By blending intricate songwriting with synthesizers and melodic arrangements, Budakid created a soundscape that is now being reimagined by a diverse roster of electronic music heavyweights, including Gerd Janson, Guy J, Fort Romeau, Argia, Map.ache, Hernan Cattaneo, Kevin Di Serna, and Renato Cohen.
A Diverse Reimagining of Melodic Soundscapes
Each contributor brings a distinct sonic signature to the collection. Guy J delivers a masterclass in restraint on his rework of ‘Lovin’ Sun,’ utilizing atmospheric vocals and slowly unfolding synthesizers to build tension. In contrast, Gerd Janson, the visionary behind Running Back, injects a dose of Italo disco energy into ‘Endless,’ characterized by driving percussion and infectious, bouncing chords.
The remix package also highlights the versatility of the original compositions. Argia crafts an ethereal, mid-tempo interpretation of ‘Hearts,’ while Map.ache, co-founder of Kann Records, brings intimate textures to ‘Tannenheim.’ Meanwhile, Fort Romeau pushes ‘Is No Ova’ into the realm of broken-beat, layering acid lines over the original vocal motifs.
The collection is rounded out by multiple takes on ‘Lovin’ Sun,’ showcasing the collaborative spirit of the project. Beyond Guy J’s contribution, Argentine producers Hernan Cattaneo and Kevin Di Serna join forces for a melodic reinterpretation, while Renato Cohen explores deeper, experimental territories. Together, these remixes successfully bridge the gap between progressive house, disco, and melodic electronica.
