A highly anticipated documentary project centered on former One Direction members Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson has reportedly been scrapped. The decision follows emerging reports of an alleged physical altercation between the two artists, casting a shadow over what was intended to be a candid look at their reconciliation.
Last October, reports surfaced suggesting that Netflix was producing a three-part docuseries that would follow the singers as they embarked on a spontaneous adventure across the United States. The project was designed to provide fans with a rare, intimate look at the pair as they reconnected as friends. The series was set to be directed by Nicola Marsh, known for her work on the Netflix version of Song Exploder.
While the streaming giant never officially confirmed the production, recent developments indicate the project has been shelved. A report published by The Sun on April 17 alleged that a physical confrontation occurred six months ago. According to the report, the incident was sparked by a remark made by Malik regarding Tomlinson’s late mother, Johannah, who passed away from leukaemia in 2016.

The source cited by the newspaper claimed that Malik struck Tomlinson in the face, with a ring worn by Malik causing a cut to Tomlinson’s head. The report further alleged that Tomlinson required medical treatment for a concussion following the encounter.
Shortly after the report circulated, director Nicola Marsh took to her Instagram Stories to share the headline, adding the somber caption: “And there goes the last year of work.” Neither Malik nor Tomlinson has issued a public statement regarding the allegations or the status of the documentary.
The project was intended to build upon the momentum of the pair’s recent public reunion, which saw Tomlinson make a surprise appearance during Malik’s Los Angeles show in January 2025. That event marked their first public appearance together since the funeral of their former bandmate, Liam Payne, in November 2024.
As of now, both artists continue to focus on their respective solo careers. Malik released his fifth studio album, Konnakol, on April 16, with an accompanying world tour scheduled to begin in Manchester on May 12. Tomlinson, meanwhile, released his third solo album, How Did I Get Here?, in January, which he has described as a significant breakthrough in his personal confidence and artistic direction.
