Country singer and songwriter Rory Feek recently shared a frightening update regarding his 12-year-old daughter, Indiana. In a candid post on his Substack, titled “a wake up call,” Feek detailed a terrifying medical emergency that left him and his wife, Rebecca, fearing for their daughter’s life.
Indiana, who has Down syndrome and was born with a congenital heart defect, had been suffering from symptoms including vomiting and lightheadedness for several days. Initially, the family suspected a common stomach bug. However, the situation escalated rapidly when Indiana passed out while walking to her bed. Despite their desperate efforts, Rory and Rebecca were unable to wake her, leading them to call 9-1-1.
“I can hardly think it, let alone write it… but we thought we had lost her,” Feek wrote in his emotional account of the event. Paramedics and a doctor arrived promptly, and Indiana was transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to Dell Children’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas.
Medical professionals discovered that fluid had accumulated around the young girl’s heart, severely hindering its ability to function. X-rays revealed that her heart had swollen to twice its normal size, necessitating immediate emergency surgery. Fortunately, the procedure was a success. Once the fluid was drained, Indiana’s condition improved rapidly. Feek noted that her color returned and she was quickly acting like her old self again.
Feek, who is well-known for co-writing the chart-topping Blake Shelton hit “Some Beach” alongside Paul Overstreet, expressed immense relief that his daughter is doing well. Doctors expect Indiana to make a full recovery, and Feek concluded his message by offering gratitude for the prayers and support the family received during this difficult time.
