Amy Taylor of Amyl & The Sniffers joined Viagra Boys to perform their collaborative cover of John Prine’s ‘In Spite Of Ourselves’ at FORWARDS Bristol 2026. This performance marked the first time the two acts have performed the track together in a live setting.

The frontwoman appeared during the Swedish punks’ set at Clifton Downs on August 30. Reflecting on the moment via Instagram, Taylor quoted the song’s lyrics, noting, “Against all odds honey you’re the big door prize.” She added, “Amyl joined Viagra Boys yesterday on stage in Bristol UK to do our cover of ‘In Spite Of Ourselves’ live for the first time. Sebastian it was a pleasure to sing with you!”
The collaboration originally surfaced in 2020, appearing on the band’s second album, Welfare Jazz. At the time of the recording, frontman Sebastian Murphy praised Taylor’s “unique voice,” calling her a “goddess of punk rock.” Taylor, in turn, credited Murphy for introducing her to the music of the late John Prine, who passed away in 2020.
Looking ahead, both bands remain active on the touring and recording circuit. Viagra Boys, who released their fourth studio album Viagr Aboys in 2025, confirmed they are currently working on new material described as “eclectic rock’n’roll.” Meanwhile, Amyl & The Sniffers are preparing for the release of their concert film and live album Truth Or Consequence, arriving September 4.
